Daughter of Thomas Battersby and Martha Cheatham. Married John Kay April 1829 in Prescot, Lancashire, England. There she ran a "Public House." She was a territorial pioneer accompanied by her seven children (the oldest son having previously emigrated). She sailed from Liverpool on the ship "John M. Wood" in the Robert Campbell Company leaving 12 March 1854 and arriving in New Orleans 2 May 1854. The Robert L. Campbell company arrived in Salt Lake City 28 Oct 1854. The family first lived in Payson then later moved to Mona. Margaret was the first midwife in Mona.
